M.Eng. Civil Engineering (International Study) Full-time

Year: 3
2025/26 Session

Students must pass all modules.

If a student fails to meet these conditions they cannot be awarded an accredited degree at the end of their programme, under the Engineering Council’s policy on Compensation and Condonement. They will therefore need to be transferred to an unaccredited programme.

The following must be taken:

Module Title Code Credits Semester
Civil Engineering Year Abroad A 04 39356 60 Full Term
Civil Engineering Year Abroad B 04 39357 60 Full Term

To progress to Stage III of MEng with International Study, a student is required to have passed 220 credits in Stages I and II, and to have a Stage II average mark of at least 59.5%. Failing these criteria but obtaining an average mark of at least 55% means a student progresses to MEng Civil Engineering, and failing this criterion means a student progresses to a BEng. If a student does not obtain an industrial placement, they will progress to MEng Civil Engineering with International Study.

Students must pass a module equivalent to the Multi-Disciplinary Design Project during the Year Abroad to fulfil the requirements of SARTOR. Otherwise the student must take these two modules in Year 5. While in the overseas University, the student must take modules equivalent to 120 credits in total covering necessarily Structural, Water and Geotechnical Engineering. Other subject areas may also be chosen as part of the 120 credits. A student who is unable to complete an entire Year Abroad may be permitted to return to the University, transferring back to an MEng Civil Engineering programme. However this may require significant self-study if the student is to successfully complete Year 3 of Stage III, having missed the teaching of the first semester. If a student fails the Industrial Year Placement module they will transfer to MEng Civil Engineering (International Study).
